Located in Alt Empordà in northern Catalynya and only 15 km away from the border with France, the village of Llançá has become a popular holiday destination for those seeking peace and quiet.

The town, located 1 km inland to keep away from the prying eyes of pirates, has a nice town square overlooked by the defensive bell tower and parish church of San Vicenç with its curious reworking of the statue of San Vicenç.

Despite having many French visitors, the town seems to be more oriented to Belgium as it has its own mannequin pis.

It's also a nice place to go for a walk along its crinkly coast and see some curious relics from the 1940s.

Highlights

Station stroll ideas

Tourist info have provided a general map of the town here and there are also couple of other maps (and an escape-room type app) here.

Guided tours

I'm not aware of any tour guides covering the place, let me know if you know of any.

Luggage

I'm not aware of any places to dump your luggage but you could try using the nannybag app to find a place that will take your bags.

If you want to get an idea of what the place is like before you go, here's a video I made of one of the curious features up the coast.

In this short video I take a walk from Llançà’s Port to the Cap de Ras, past some lovely little beaches and coves and find part of the top-secret P-Line.

...And here's a written version.

Getting there

Llançà is easy to get to by train from Portbou (10 mins), Figueres (15 mins), Girona (1 hour) and Barcelona (2 hours).
